The family is a fundamental social institution. Islamic thought on the family, derived from the Quran, offers a unique perspective. This view critiques Western foundations of women's rights, which are based on individualism and absolute equality. From an Islamic interpretive lens, these principles can conflict with core values. In Islam, women's rights are framed within a divine system that emphasizes mutual responsibilities and complementary roles between spouses. Quranic commentaries argue this framework provides a more balanced and sustainable model for family cohesion, preventing the extremes of relying solely on human reason or secular structures.
